Introduction of the Sector

Power is the most critical requirement towards the development and social parity of any country. With the increasing focus on Sustainable Development and resulting Sustainable Development Goal it is pertinent to harness the Renewable Sources of the Energy to its fullest. The existing source of power generation are also gradually being converted into more sustainable alternatives viz. Solar, Wind, Biomass etc. India has a vast supply of renewable energy resources, and it has one of the largest programmes in the world for deploying renewable energy products and systems. Newer renewable electricity sources are targeted to grow massively by year 2022. The Government of India’s estimates, a $100 billion investment, and a strong policy framework to stimulate the immense growth of solar and wind energy markets. Renewable Energy is generated through various natural resources such as biomass, sun, wind, tides waves and water (hydroelectric power). India has a vast supply of renewable energy resources and it has one of the largest programmes in the world for deploying renewable energy products and systems. Newer renewable electricity sources are targeted to grow massively by year 2022. The Government of India’s estimates, a $100 billion investment and a strong policy framework to stimulate the immense growth of solar and wind energy markets. As of 2018, India ranked 4th in wind power, 5th in solar power, and 5th in renewable power installed capacity. As a part of the Paris Agreement, the Government of India has set an ambitious target of achieving 175 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2022, and 500 GW by 2030. The awareness for clean energy in domestic and industrial setups with government incentives points to a bright future for trained professionals.
